Course summary:

Evidence shows that improving reading comprehension narrows the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. During the course we will review this evidence and the implications for schools.

Evidence from the Education Endowment Foundation suggests that Reading Comprehension can increase pupil progress over the course of a year by an additional 6 months During this course we will explore what the evidence behind this says and consider its implications for teaching.

We will also explore a range of skills and strategies needed in order to understand texts and share a number of practical examples for teaching.

This course will be useful for anyone wanting to understand more about reading comprehension and how to teach it as well as school leaders who are keen to ensure that their pupils make accelerated progress.
