Primary English: Leading On Phonics

Course summary:

This course, which runs annually but with a different focus, provides an opportunity for Phonics Leads in primary schools to come together to consider current research on the teaching of phonics, share good practice, ask questions and network with colleagues from other schools.

The exact focus for the session will be decided nearer the time to ensure the material presented is up to date and relevant. It may include:

• Exploration of recent research into the teaching of phonics and early reading.

• Discussion around what is going well and areas of difficulty

• Review of recent Ofsted inspection reports and any relevant issues which are raised

• Practical ideas for teaching

• Strategies to support for pupils who are struggling with phonics

• Discussion about resources, including decodable texts

Colleagues who are new to the role are likely to find this course particularly useful.
