Course summary:

In this webinar we will explore the role of poetry in the KS2 classroom. A range of resources and practical ideas for teaching will also be shared.

In the KS2 classroom poetry is a great resource for use both in English lessons and across the curriculum. The Ofsted Inspection Framework states that: In reaching an evaluation against the 'quality of education' judgement, inspectors will consider whether stories, poems, rhymes and non-fiction are chosen for reading to develop pupils' vocabulary, language comprehension and love of reading, further emphasising the importance of this genre which is often squeezed into one or two short units each year.

During the webinar we will introduce you to a range of age appropriate poems and rhymes and explore how they could be used in the classroom to develop oral language, vocabulary, reading and writing. We will explore common themes and make recommendations about individual poems and anthologies which would be a valuable resource in any KS2 classroom.
