Course summary:

Do you have pupils across the year groups who are struggling to acquire and apply phonic knowledge? This course will give you some ideas and practical strategies to help you identify and address the difficulties.

As a result of school closures due to the pandemic many more pupils are behind where they should be in the application of their phonic skills. The course will explore some of the common difficulties pupils experience when learning phonics including auditory discrimination, blending and grapheme/phoneme correspondences and suggest practical ways in which these may be overcome.

The session will cover:

• Identifying the problem - a range of assessment tasks aimed at pinpointing a pupil's specific area of difficulty
• Strategies and activities to support teaching - as an intervention and within the classroom
• Monitoring progress

The course is suitable for teachers and teaching assistants working with pupils in KS1 and KS2.
