Course summary:

In this course we explore how we can ensure all pupils build a strong foundation of basic writing skills to support their ongoing writing journey.

The Ofsted English Subject Report (Mar 2024) emphasised the importance of ensuring pupils master the basics of writing in KS1 before they faced with more complex writing tasks in KS2. This is essential if they are to become fluent writers.

In this session we will focus on the important elements of handwriting, spelling, grammar and punctuation and explore how we can teach these explicitly whilst also incorporating what has been learnt into meaningful writing activities. We will share a range of strategies and ideas for teaching.
